Planned redeployment of Gardai ‘on hold’

MARIAN ROCHE

There was welcome news for Clogheen and Ballyporeen residents on Wednesday, as they received confirmation that the planned redeployment of Gardaí from both villages is not to go ahead.

Cllr Marie Murphy, a native of Clogheen and Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council, announced the news this week.

She stated that, “The operational changes proposed for Clogheen and Ballyporeen Garda Stations have been put on hold, as Superintendent Denis Whelan, who made the operational decision to move both Garda Phil Ryan and Garda Kieran O’Donovan, to Cahir and Cashel has been transferred to Wexford.”

“Superintendent Whelan rang me this morning to inform me of his transfer and also his belief that any operational decisions going forward should be taken by the new superintendent.”

The news follows moves by both communities in recent weeks to publicly appeal the decision in various ways, including signed petitions in Ballyporeen.
