The Avondhu

Is your neck feeling the brunt of the last 18 months working from home?

Are you living with the bothersome side effects of an achy and tight neck that will not settle? The toll of the last eighteen months is starting to become more apparent in many different ways.

In both of our clinics we are seeing a spike in the number of people reporting neck tension, headaches and stiffness that has become too bothersome to ignore any longer. So if you are feeling similar symptoms, you are not alone. This sort of neck pain is annoying, can drain your energy and take the good out of your day. Our clients report popping pills, which rarely work, using hot water bottles for some relief as they gradually become weary and worried as the problem slowly escalates.

This is not an ideal scenario for anyone to endure and thankfully over 95 percent of problems like this are easily resolved with physiotherapy. The key to successfully reducing the pain is to identify the exact reason why your body is feeling this way. The answers follow after undergoing a detailed assessment.

Once this is complete both you and your physio will agree on a suitable treatment approach using a combination of effective hands on treatments to reduce tension in the tissues and free up any stiffness in the joints of the neck.

Dry needling is also very effective to relieve tension related issues. A breathing assessment can also identify an underlying persistent cause for the problem and with a respiratory training programme significant improvements are only around the corner.

Neck, back and shoulder exercise are also helpful to stop the problem from recurring. These complimented with a good understanding of ‘what you are doing’ and ‘why we are doing it’ will really help solve this problem once and for all. So If you have neck pain or know someone who is struggling with symptoms like these, why not pick up the phone and call us to book your appointment. Ask yourself this. What would you do for 50% less pain and stiffness? Then go again. What would it mean for you to be back to your normal self not even thinking about your neck? If you are unsure about physiotherapy why not ask to speak to one of our team to see if we are a good match for you. www.apcphysio.ie/ speak-with-physio
