Final approval for Burncourt hall extension
MARIAN ROCHE
Final approval has been granted for an extension to Burncourt Community Hall, paving the way for works to begin shortly.
The extension will consist of an open-sided covered area to the rear of the hall, that will be available to various community groups and the pupils of the national school, to use as an add-on to the existing facilities. There will be full access to the rest of the hall, and the disabled toilets, from the open-sided extension.
Breeda Fitzgerald, chairperson of Burncourt Community Council, confirmed to TheAvondhu that the extension would begin with the steel frame and roof very soon, with monies raised from fundraising earlier in the process.
“When the hall is finished, it will be a valuable resource for adding extra space for our various groups - the school will be able to use it, when they’re practicing for their Christmas plays, and we would hope to hold music events in the afternoon for any of our retired groups. And given what we’ve been through - touch wood - if we do need an outdoor space again for anything in the future, this extension will be there for us.”
OTHER WORKS
The good news for the community comes as roadworks are continuing in the village to improve the paths and reduce the speed of through-traffic, as well as an extension of three classrooms for the school, with longterm plans for a ball alley and AstroTurf pitch on the grounds of the school.
