Boil water notice issued to over 1,650 Lismore residents

KATIE GLAVIN

A boil water notice was issued late last week for customers of the Lismore Deerpark Public Water Supply.

The notice was issued on Friday last, September 17, with immediate effect following consultation between the HSE, Irish Water and Waterford City and County Council.

The notice was put into effect ‘ to protect the health of consumers’ on the Lismore Deerpark Public Water Supply, according to a statement issued by Waterford City and County Council. The measure has been enforced due to issues with disinfection of the water at the treatment plant, the statement noted.

All 1,671 people supplied by the Lismore Deerpark Public Water Supply are affected by the notice.

PUBLIC HEALTH

Speaking about the boil water notice, Irish Water Drinking Water Compliance Specialist, Pat Duggan, said that public health is the main priority.

“Public health is our main priority, and after consulting with the HSE, a boil water notice has been put in place on the Lismore Deerpark supply. We are working closely with our partners in Waterford City and County Council to address the issues and hope to lift the notice as soon as it is safe to do so,” he said.

Under the notice, water must be boiled for drinking, food preparation, brushing of teeth and in the making of ice.

Experts from Irish Water and Waterford City and County Council are working to assess the situation currently, investigating the issues at the treatment plant with a view to implementing solutions to lift the notice as quickly and as safely as possible.

In the meantime, all customers on this supply are advised to boil their water before use until further notice.

Vulnerable customers will be contacted and customers who have any other concerns can contact the Irish Water customer care team on 1800 278 278. Updates will also be available on the ‘Water Supply Updates’ section on water.ie
