Local drifters are holding the top spots as the sixth stage of the Russian Drift Series Grand Prix came to a close at the ADM Raceway track in Moscow.

Killavullen’s Jack Shanahan (Fresh Auto Drift) and Castletownroche’s James Deane (Aimol Racing) remain in the running for the top spot. Both drivers flew throught the Top 16 stage, entering the Top 8 battle, with 2020 King of Riga James Deane finishing fifth in the weekend’s events.

“After an incredible Top 16 battle with Arkady Tsaregradtsev, I got lost in the smoke in my Top 8 battle with Andrey Astapov and took myself out. These things happen but we are excited for the RDS Grand Prix finals in Sochi next month,” James said.

Holding strong in the battle, Jack Shanahan fought it out for a place in the Top 4 after qualifying first and taking a place on the podium after finishing third place with team points.

After Stage Six of the RDS Grand Prix, Jack Shanahan remains top of the leaderboard with 959 points in total, while James Deane is following closely behind with 903 points in fourth place.

Following the most recent round of events last weekend, Jack Shanahan said that he had a ‘great weekend’.

“The championship is all to play for heading into the final round in Sochi. All I know is that I’ve had a great year and I’m looking forward to a great season end, no matter what the result,” he said.

The Russian Drift Series Grand Prix season will end in the second half of October, with the seventh and final stage of the RDS GP-2021 taking place on October 16 and 17 at the Sochi Autodrom track.
