Challenging and hard-fought game

Last Sunday, September 19 our U16 girls took on old rivals and 2021 U16B league winners Dromtarriffe in Glanworth in front of a large home crowd who helped to cheer the girls on to victory in the U16 North Cork C league.

The hard work that the girls and their mentors have put in during the year was evident with the level of skill and teamwork that the girls displayed. From 1 to 19, every girl on the panel played an important part in the victory on the day and throughout the whole of our league campaign.

We started the game off at a blistering pace and this continued for the whole of the first half. Straight from the throw-in our girls were fired up for this game and fought hard for every ball. The team displayed some exceptional passages of play, in particular our full forward who was unstoppable when running forward, which led to some fantastic scores.

Our forwards not only took every scoring opportunity, but they also defended the ball, preventing Dromtarriffe from clearing it out and causing Glanworth trouble.

The centre forward line were again outstanding on the day, intercepting the kick out and displaying great teamwork at playing the ball back in. This gave the Dromtarriffe defence numerous problems given their skill with the ball and their pace.

Our mid-fielders also put in a massive performance in the centre and played some lovely passes, helping Glanworth to set up some excellent scores while also covering huge ground and helping out with defending too.

All year, our centre backline has been unbreakable and worked as a strong unit making it difficult for the opposition to push forward with their excellent reading of a game.

The fullback line, which included our co-captains, were fearless in their defence and pulled off some excellent blocking, preventing Dromtarriffe from coming back at us in the second half.

Our goalkeeper was also outstanding and pulled off some crucial saves, stopping the ball from crossing the line on numerous occasions. While our back lines have gone from strength to strength all season.

Thanks to Dromtarriffe for a challenging and hard-fought game. Their skill and determination on the field was truly impressive, but our girls came out on top at the end. Final score Glanworth 3-19 Dromtarriffe 3-9.
