Minors unlucky

U15 FOOTBALL DIV2/3B

Our U15 footballers played at home last Wednesday where they were hosts to Dungarvan. Dungarvan got a very early goal in the game but this did not unsettle the Cois Bhríde lads who persevered and played some lovely football, taking their scores when they came.

Two quick goals by Aidan Murphy early in the second half saw Cois Bhríde comfortably edge ahead by six points. But Dungarvan never gave up pulling it back to level with a few minutes to go. Some well taken points by Stephen Murphy and excellent defending by our backs especially Harvey Hagen kept us in the game.

Nip and tuck right to the end where a final point by Conor Henley secured the win. Well done to all the lads who will travel to Dé la Salle on Wednesday for their next game. Full-time score 2-8 to 3-4.

U12 FOOTBALL DIV1

We started off well with a few quick points, but due to a lapse in our defence line The Nire had two goals in the back of the net. But this team as usual dug deep and brought it back to level by half-time.

In the second half we got some great points to start the half well. The lads really worked hard with The Nire doing everything to get the ball in the goals, but our midfield and defenders and maybe a forward were leaving nothing through. Real credit must be given to this team, who are playing super football at the moment. Well done everyone. Full-time score Cois Bhríde 1-2 Nire 1-1.

U10 FOOTBALL

Our young footballers welcomed The Nire to Tallow on Saturday morning, where there was some great football displayed on the pitch. Cois Bhríde had a great win and the boys and girls really enjoyed themselves.

MINOR COUNTY SEMI-FINAL

The minor hurlers were out on Sunday morning in Cappoquin playing Dungarvan in the county semi-final at the very early start time of 10.30.

The team were dealt a serious blow before the game with the loss of goalkeeper Billy Murphy, his 14 year old teammate Joseph McDonnell again put his hand up to go in goals and again didn’t put a foot wrong. Cois Bhríde started strong with 2 great points from Jake Henley followed by another from Jack Murphy. By this stage Dungarvan were coming more into the game and always looked like scoring goals as they have done throughout the championship.

Leaving them with a huge uphill challenge, behind with a scoreline of 6-8 to 1-7 at half time the Cois Bhríde goal coming from a great solo effort from Jake Henley.

While most teams would drop their heads at this stage this bunch of lads rose to the challenge, while being outmatched physically they out hurled Dungarvan for the rest of the game. In the next period scores from Stephen Roche (a goal and a point), Jake Henley 2 points, Jack Murphy 1 point and Conor Henley a point leaving the score 6-11 to 2-13 at the water break in the second half.

The backs were after coming to grips with the Dungarvan forwards at this stage and they were winning most individual battles around the field. Stephen Roches’ move to centre forward was paying dividends finishing the game with 2-2, Jake Henley added 1-2 in the last quarter, Shane Martin a goal and Conor Henley 2 points with 4 minutes to go and with the score 6-13 to 5-14 Ciaran Lenehan was upended while through on goal!

With the decision to play on Dungarvan broke down the field to score a goal. To the team’s credit they fought until the end, a Jack Murphy point the final score of the day.

Great credit to the team on the way they performed, they battled until the end and never dropped their heads once and were very unlucky not to snatch a result in the end. Full-time score 7-13 to 5-15.

Thanks to mentors Denis Martin, Johnny Geary, Declan Butler and to trainers Shane Roche, Jake Beecher and Kieran Geary and to Covid officer Sinead Lenehan for their help throughout the year.
