Fermoy cyclo-cross racing on Sunday

This Sunday Fermoy Cycling Club will be holding a full programme of cyclo-cross racing at Bettyville, Clondulane with racing getting under way at 10am.

This winter sport of cyclo-cross cycling is a very exciting sport, with many thrills and spills, as the cyclists battle against each other and the difficulties of the circuit.

Entry is free and plenty of excitement is guaranteed. Time of the racing is: underage up to U14 – 10am; B category senior race and U16 – 11.30am; ladies – 11.32am; A senior race and juniors – 1pm.

Fermoy Cycling Club cyclists Stephen McGrath, Liam O’Brien and Shane O’Brien will carry the local hopes for success, while a number of Fermoy club newcomers will also make their first appearance on the day.

Liam O’Brien made the journey to Derby in England last weekend to take part in the British National Trophy Cyclo-Cross junior series. Competing against a big field of cyclists and hampered by a crash and mechanical problems, Liam found the going hard, eventually finishing in 30th place out of 72 finishers. In the circumstances, it was a fine performance at this level of competition and Liam is looking forward to further planned opportunities over the coming season.
