Astro-Turf project update

There is no turning back now! On Tuesday, September 19 our newly elected club-president Connie Delaney officially turned the sod at the club grounds with a large group of underage players and committee members in attendance. The works will now commence and at the end there will be a state-of-theart facility for all in White’s Cross and surrounding community.

Our fundraiser “Shoot for the Stars” day, which was due to take place on September 18th will now take place on Saturday, October 9 as we have had a number of teams still in competitive action in this period. We can hopefully combine our fund-raising day with many medals presentations.

In the last few days and weeks leading up to the event, we really need everyone in the club to put in a massive effort to fill those sponsorship cards. There has been a huge amount raised already and now we really need everyone to dig in and play their part.

JUNIOR B HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP White’s Cross 3-07 Bishopstown 0-11

The club’s junior B hurlers were the fourth and final side to make their championship bow in 2021. With all other sides departed, it was left to this team to fly the championship flag for the club for the remainder of the autumn. They certainly responded in kind.

The foundation for this victory was laid in the first half. The return from injury of a number of key players proved a massive boost for the side. Martin Reid had a fine game at centre back while in midfield, Max Philpott was outstanding all through. Ronan Aherne, the fullback in the club’s last championship victory over Whitechurch a year ago, made his comeback at the other-side of the field; wearing the number 14 jersey. This move certainly paid dividends as Aherne helped himself to 2-02 in the opening half. David Hyde got a third goal as White’s Cross lead 3 -04 to 0-04 at the break.

In the second half, the scores did not flow as readily. Bishopstown were always going to make a fight of it to stay in the championship. However, though they applied plenty of pressure they were never able to get the goal that they needed to win the game. This was mainly due to the defending from the likes of Derek O’Connor and Richie Sherlock. White’s Cross ran out deserved winners of 3-07 to 0-11.

Team: Daniel Dunphy, Sean O’Gorman, Derek O’Connor, Richie Sherlock, Cathal Quinlan, Martin Reid, Seamus Quinlan, Dan O’Sullivan, Max Philpott, Seamus Reid, Conor Docherty, Sean O’Neill, David Hyde, Ronan Aherne, Cormac O’Flynn.
