A classic!

Our annual ground development golf classic held on Friday last at Mitchelstown Golf Club was truly a classic.

Firstly a big thank you to each and every team that entered, 51 in total and also to those of you who sponsored tee boxes, donated prizes for the raffle and a massive thanks to our main sponsors Mitchelstown credit union and co. sponsors The Hunters Rest and Walsh’s Bar. A big thank you to Mary Ryan and Mary Rose Sampson who looked after our teams with food and drinks.

Thanks to Kieran Cotter and kitchen garden who supplied the goodie bags and to Anthony Ahern for his help and our committee members that helped on the day it was greatly appreciated. The weather gods were truly on our side and this contributed to making the day a huge success. I would like to thank Michael Hennessey who scrutinised every card that was returned with great detail and when darkness fell we has a clear winner.

The winning score of 56pts was returned by a team representing Jackie O’Brien’s Bar and that team consisted of Stephen Murphy, Dick Cahill and William Casey. We also had our first ever hole in one since the inception of our classic and this came on the 3rd hole on Friday last after Vinny O’Donnell’s fine tee shot found the hole. Well done Vin. At the presentation in Walsh’s Bar that evening chairman Sean Keane thanked everyone who helped in any way to make this a success, he also outlined to the crowd the ambitious plans that the club have in place for Bigown Park and stated that the continued support of this classic is a vital cog in our fundraising.

WEEKLY LOTTO

Our weekly draw took place on Monday night last and the no’s drawn were 11, 12, 13 and 15 which yielded no winner. We thank you for your continued support, see lotto results elsewhere in this paper.

Tickets are available from usual outlets or from our door to door seller John Ryan. We are now in a position to move our draw to the different businesses that support our draw so next week’s draw will take place in The Hunters Rest, and the following week Dexy’s, then Paulie’s, Walshs etc.

3 POINTS

Our youths got their campaign going on Saturday last with a good 3 nil win at home to passage which gives them 1 win and 1 defeat after their first 2 games.

JUNIORS UNLUCKY

A fairly depleted junior panel due to Holy Communion and work commitments travelled to Carrigaline on Saturday afternoon last. Park were still in it at half time trailing 1 nil.

The homeside added a second early in the 2nd half but Ppark pulled one back straight away and it remained in the balance with 15 to go, but 2 late strikes sealed the deal for the homeside on a 4-1 scoreline.

SYMPATHIES

Park Utd. AFC expresses its deepest sympathies to the family of the late Mary Dold. Mary was very good to Park Utd over the years securing sponsorship from some former employers. Her untimely death was a shock to the Community. May she rest in peace.
