First home game of the season

The Brew Boys had their first home game of the season last Sunday in front of a large crowd at our Castlelyons venue. The coffee van parked behind the goals gave plenty of refreshment to the supporters hoping that the lads could make it four wins from four games.

With our new kit and new gear the lads were well up for this one. Telus International were the opponents and they had earlier labelled this a David and Goliath task for them as they saw us as legitimate title contenders. From the kick-off we showed them that they were right! The Brew Boys dominated from the get-go with our wings absolutely destroying the opposition. Wayne Fitzgerald and Robby O Buru linked up beautifully with their counterparts further up the line Sean Mac and Adam Byrne and caused several problems for the Telus back four. Tom McGrath’s creativity shone when he found Sean McCarthy inside the six-yard box who put everything on the line to ensure the ball hit the back of the net. 1-0.

After scoring from the bench last week Gaffer Anthony Cody rewarded Jamie Noonan with his first start of the season. His faith was repaid when Noonan shot from distance with his weaker leg and made it 2-0. 2 goals in 2 games from him. Simon Drislane made it 3-0 from a perfectly weighted cross from Adam Byrne and we went in 3-0 at the break.

The second half continued the way the first ended with the Brew Boys remaining on top. Captain Johnny McCarthy impressed the supporters with a terrific header from another Adam Byrne set piece that lifted the back of the Telus net. 4-0. All five subs were used and to great effect as all that came on caused further problems for the visitors. Great competition for places at the moment.

Telus did manage to get one back from the spot before the full-time whistle but it was still a terrific performance from the entire squad. Man of the match goes to Adam Byrne who assisted 2 goals again today.
