New season underway

The opening weekend of the Prim-Ed Sponsored WW/EC Schoolboy League commenced with the U12 and U14 age groups, with plenty of goals to record as the new season gets underway.

The U12 age group is a 9-a-side competition while the U14 age group is standard adult 11-a-side. There is little form to go on in the U12 age group but Ballyduff Rovers who had a nice team last year will certainly be a side to watch. Kilworth too are always good in this age group as are Brideview. In the U14 Brideview, Kilworth and Mogeely will be the front runners but there will be plenty of upsets in this age group as the season goes on.

U12 PRIM-ED LEAGUE RESULTS Brideview United 7 Cappoquin 0

Brideview got off to a winning start at home to Cappoquin who could not match the firepower of the home side who led by 2-0 at half-time with goals from Josh Mangan and Barra Alian. The home side dominated the second half as well with further goals from Paul Hegarty, David Murphy and Harry Power with Mangan and Alian adding their second for a very convincing win.

Lismore 3 Ballyduff Rovers 3

A hat trick for Shane Landers as Lismore and Ballyduff serve up a thriller. This was a fine game of flowing football with the sides sharing four goals in the opening half. It was fitting that it ended all square with both sides putting their first points on the table.

Clashmore Ramblers 0 Inch United 4

At Pablo Park the visitors Inch United got the better of a Clashmore side who had a lot of players playing together for the first time. Inch passed the ball well and were 3-0 up at half-time. Clashmore did much better in the second half just conceding one from a free kick and while they were beaten they did play very well with Sean Curran having a fine game on his birthday, while Paddy Roche and Ethan Casey made their debuts at half time.

Kilworth Celtic 4 Mogeely 6

We had a ten goal thriller in Kilworth with visitors Mogeely coming out on top at Sheila Flynn Park. Mogeely settled early and by half time had built up a 4-0 lead. Credit to Kilworth however, as they fought back strongly and by the midway point just a goal separated the sides as Kilworth hit three on the bounce with Peter Sarsfield, Luke Browne and David Vaitkunas finding the net.

With both sides making changes Mogeely finished that bit stronger adding a further two goals and while Peter Sarsfield pulled a goal back for the home side it was the visitors that came away with all three points. The Mogeely scorers were Dillon Murphy 2, Finn Burke, Max Smiddy, Conor Hennessy and Donagh Hayes.

Ardmore 7 Ballybridge United 1

In Dysart Park on Sunday evening Ardmore got off to a winning start against Ballybridge United. Again we had plenty of goals with Killian O’Hagan opening the score for the home side. The visitors were level inside 5 minutes with a great goal scored by the impressive Orla McCarthy. Ardmore continued to press with Logan Griffin getting a second while 8 year old Jimmy Howard added a third. John O’Brien pulled off some good saves before Griffin added his second to leave it 4-1 to Ardmore at HT. On the resumption a Tom Howard goal extended the lead while late goals from Griffin and John O’Brien bringing the game to a close. Eoin Kirwan and the 4 ladies stood out for the visitors.

U14 PRIM-ED LEAGUE RESULTS Lismore 2 Castlebridge Celtic 0

Lismore got the better of Castlebridge Celtic in a tight game at the Castle Farm grounds. There was little to choose between the sides who were scoreless at half time. Second half goals from Kealan Dunne and Ryan Oakham gave the points to Lismore after a very good match.

Clashmore Ramblers 2 Inch United 5

On Sunday at Pablo Park Clashmore Ramblers went two goals up through Cormac Mooney and Daragh Ryan. Visitors Inch got back in the game with a converted penalty and a second goal had it level at the break. In the second half Inch went ahead from the penalty spot and added two late goals to secure all three points.

Cappoquin v Brideview United postponed re-fixed for 23/08/21 in Cappoquin.

Next weekend it will be the turn of the U13 and U15 age groups along with Academy U11 so al clubs will have gotten their season up and running. Brideview United and Kilworth will be the front runner at U13 level, while Brideview, Cappoquin and Ballyduff Rovers will all be strong at U15.

For weekly fixture times and referees please check the league website as sometimes games do get changed. Fixtures are included but times etc will depend on referees and will be notified to clubs via the club contact e-mail in the league.

SUBMIT RESULTS PLEASE

All clubs are asked to text in results to the league results phone at 0830890833 with half-time score, full time and scorers if possible for the Pro to compile reports.

Thanks to all clubs that texted in results. It would be great if both sides would text in the scorers with the half-time and full-time results which will help compile the notes. We will try to get some pics as we move into the season, but for now we are just making sure that all is working well.
