Great turnout

Pat Denn Feeds Ltd kindly sponsored an 18 hole stroke competition for the ladies on Wednesday, September 15, well done to Laoise Ni Chonchubhair who won with a great score of 71 nett in difficult conditions as the greens had just been hollow tined.

Last Sunday, September 19 was a very special day as Katherine Moynihan presented the Col O’Brien Cup celebrating its 50th year, there was a great turnout with 36 entries. Huge congratulations to Megan Glavin who’s only taken up golf this year and had a beautiful round of golf, winning with 64 nett. Well done to Megan and all the prize winners who had super scores.

Katherine made a wonderful presentation on Sunday evening about the history of the Col O’Brien Cup, her mother introduced this cup for the ladies in 1971 when Lismore Golf Club was just a par 3 course.

At the time, there were no such thing as sponsors for competitions so Mrs O’Brien, who was one of the founders of the club in 1965, decided it would be lovely to play for a beautiful elegant silver cup which was handcrafted in Mumbai, India. What an honour to Megan on winning this year. Katherine, joined by her daughters Maeve Ann and Grainne, thanked everyone who played, Sheila Denn and the competition committee for their hard work in organising the competition, Ann Bennett for managing the bar, Bernie Glavin for catering and Martin Rafferty and his team who ensured the course was in tip top condition. Best wishes to Katherine for presenting outstanding prizes, here’s to the next 50 years!
