The Avondhu

The season has started

U12S Lismore 3 Ballyduff Rovers 3

The U12s had their first outing against a very good Lismore team, very well coached and played a lovely brand of soccer. The game could have gone either way and a draw was probably the fairest result.

Team – Dion Van de Ven, Shane Drislane, Lochlann Roche (2), Shay Feeney (1), Ryan Molumphy, Jamie Alcock, Donal Kenneally, James Geary, Mark Geary, Jack Dooling, Evan Flynn.

U17S Kilworth Celtic 0 Ballyduff Rovers 3

Team – Jack McDonnell, Ryan Heise, Thomas Ahern, Shane Cunningham, Michael Kiely, Mark Burke, Aodhán Hickey (1), Keelan Hannigan, Josh Good (1), Billy Marsh, William Kenneally, Ben Ahern.

The 2021/2022 season started back last weekend and we had two teams start their season. The U17s is a new team this year and we have some Brideview United players and coaches joining our team for the season. Over the years Brideview have been very accommodating with taking our players when we didn’t have a club, so it is good to repay the favour and take on board their players and coaches for this grade for this season. By all accounts some very good players and this is a team to watch. They will be playing in the Cork league so some very interesting fixtures ahead.

Training has started back for some groups due to the leagues starting early, the younger groups will start back training in early October. This year we have the benefit of the new brilliant facility of the Astro Turf pitch and we will look to make good use of this. The hope is to have one training night where we can fit in all age groups over a 2-hour period.

This year we have U6s (new), U8s, U10s, U12s, U13s, U15s and U17s (new). All in all, we have over 100 boys and girls registered to play soccer for this season, which is great but brings with is some headaches.

We have been very lucky with sponsorship for jerseys and equipment and a recent fundraiser also brought in some much-needed funds. However, we still need more coaches and helpers for all these kids. We especially need more female coaches involved at each age group and any young aspiring coaches would also be very welcome. Talk to Joe, Kieran or Thomas or any of the committee members for details.
