Quarter-final action

Lismore seniors hurlers met the sky blues of Roanmore last Saturday evening at a rain drenched Fraher Field in this year’s senior hurling quarter final. Roanmore, who have had their fair share of disappointments over the years losing five of the last six quarter finals, started brightly and put it up to Lismore in all areas of the pitch.

In what was a nip tuck affair, the black and amber could not shake off the challenge from Roanmore with a response of their own every time Lismore raised a flag. Defence splitting runs from Carthach Daly, the introduction of Dan Shanahan, a hat trick of goals from Ray Barry and a penalty goal from Maurice still could not get the better of Roanmore. It was Gavin O’Brien who sealed it for the city men with an injury time point.

Scorers for Lismore: M Shanahan 1-9 (5fs, 1-0 pen, 2 65s), R Barry 3-1, C Daly 0-2, F Reaney 0-1.

Team: Seanie Barry, Conor Howard, David Prendergast, Aaron Whelan, John Prendergast, Iarlaith Daly, Finbarr Reaney, Carthach Daly, Shane Heaphy, Maurice Shanahan, Jack Prendergast, Jordan Shanahan, Oisín O’Gorman, Ray Barry, Joe Lenihan. Subs: D Shanahan for Lenihan (HT), E O’Sullivan for John Prendergast (51).

And so there it ends for another year. The club would like to thank all the players, mentors, coaches and back room team for their efforts in 2021.

SYMPATHIES

Lismore GAA Club would like to extend its deepest sympathies to the Kennedy family on the recent death of Bill Kennedy, Washington Street, Cork and formerly of South Mall, Lismore.

Bill was an avid Lismore GAA supporter down through the years and co-wrote a book with Tom O’Donoghue detailing the history of the club since its’ inception as the Lismore Blackwater Ramblers in 1887 right through to 1984. Bill quipped in his introduction in the book that “Hopefully, however, discussion will be stimulated and the pros and cons can once again be thrashed out at The Monument, sitting on The Bridge, chatting at Ballinwillin Cross, or pitching a toss at the top of Con’s”. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
