DRAWN GAME

We played our second game in the county senior football championship last Saturday evening in Bansha. Weather conditions were not great as it rained heavily all through the first half.

If we lost this game we would have been in all sorts of bother facing a relegation battle. So a draw gives us something to play for in our final group game against Moyne Templetuohy. Bottom line is a win sees us qualifying as runners up whereas a defeat could mean relegation play off.

This game against Eire Óg Annacarty last weekend won’t go down as one of our finest performances. For some reason a number of our lads just didn’t perform on the night and we hope we can put it down as a bad day at the office and move on.

We had the first score of the game when Christy English kicked over. Two points from Conor Sweeney and one from Fionán O’Sullivan was our total for the first half as we trailed 0-4 to 0-5 at the break.

The second half was low scoring as well, with our forwards being starved of supply and living off scrapes. Again two points from Conor Sweeney and three from Fionán O’Sullivan was our total in the second half to leave the final score at 9 points each.

I’m sure the lads are well aware they can play much better than this and indeed will have to if we are to advance. I’m afraid 9 points won’t win too many games. We have good players throughout the team and early ball into our talented forwards could reap better rewards. Whatever happens now we have to play out of our skins and give it one hell of a go against Moyne, we can do it.

Team: M. Sweeney, S O’Callaghan, P Cole, E Morrissey, J O’Callaghan, O Brennan, N Vaughan, R O’Callaghan, D Finn, C English, C Sweeney, T Sweeney, D Lyons, F O’Sullivan, T Vaughan. Sub used A English.

Lotto takes place this Sunday evening at The Doolis Bar. Jackpot €3,600.
