Lismore Tidy Towns Fingers crossed for good weather

Planned autumn pruning of shrubs took place last week at the entrance to Beechgrove, at the rose bed on East Main Street/ Convent Road and inside the railings at the public car park. Thanks to the Lismore Tidy Towns members and our CE worker Jim Noonan who have done that work. Hopefully the weather stays on our side to get the remaining work around town done.

In early September it was announced that soft plastics can now be put in household recycling bins along with rigid plastic items and as before all plastic items should be clean, dry and loose.

Waste prevention co-ordinator Pauline McDonagh at “My Waste’’- a Government guide for the public on waste - explained that soft plastics are anything that can be scrunched in your hand.. She stated that over 10 million euro has been invested in Ireland’s recycling facilities over the past few years resulting in a lot of those businesses installing optical sorting equipment which can identify different plastics. Minister for State for the Circular Economy Ossian Smyth TD said advances in technology means that plastic bags and wrappers can go into household recycling. Under EU law all plastics will have to be fully recyclable by 2030.

- ECO TIP OF THE WEEK - EASY WAYS TO GO GREEN IN YOUR BATHROOM?

Water it down, switch off the tap when brushing your teeth - apparently it saves a whopping three to four gallons of water per day per person

Go with the flow, keep the bath for occasional soaks unless you spend 16 minutes in the shower as you would then use as much water

Be like a panda, buy a toothbrush made from bamboo. After using it dry it off to stop it from splitting.
