Kathleen inspiring as Operation Transformation leader

KATIE GLAVIN

Carraig na bhFear lady, Kathleen Hurley Mullins, made an appearance on our television screens last week as a leader for Operation Transformation 2022.

Living on her farm in Carraig with her husband, Tony, and two children, Kathleen is a beautician, salon owner and farmer.

In December 2020, her sister Susan became unwell and passed away suddenly. According to Kathleen, losing her sister has been the hardest experience of her life.

In the midst of this heartbreak, Kathleen was assessed for ovarian cancer, when it was found she had a benign cyst. In May 2021 she decided to have the cyst and her ovaries removed, and immediately went into surgical menopause.

Speaking on the show last Wednesday week, Kathleen spoke of how this impacted, particularly on her confidence, saying that it ‘shattered’ her.

With such a challenging year behind her, this OT leader now wants to do something positive for herself in 2022, and getting healthy in body as well as mind is her new priority.

“I don’t want anything to stop me this time. I want to succeed and I want to get through this. Susan’s given me a lifeline, and I want to use it. I want people to hear Susan’s story because I think that’s important, and to see the impact that it has had on our lives.

“Sometimes people try to hide their feelings too much and I want people to know my story, that’s my reason, and to lose weight,” Kathleen added.

During the show, Kathleen’s story touched viewers, who took to the internet to share their thoughts.

“Kathleen is so brave. I’ve no doubt that Susan would be so proud of her. Wishing her all the best on this journey,” 2021 Operation Transformation leader Andrew Burke-Hannon said.

8 WEEK JOURNEY

The five leaders began their transformation back in November when they were fully assessed by the experts. They also underwent the minimum fitness test with Prof Niall Moyna of DCU and his team.

All the information from this stage will assist the experts in charting the safest way for each leader to become healthier.

The long-running show returned to screens once again on Wednesday, January 5 on RTÉ One.

Viewers can once again follow five inspiring leaders from across the country as they take on their personal health and wellness plan, with the aim of resetting and kick starting a new chapter in their lives. All of them are looking to the experts for guidance and information that can help them to begin and sustain a healthy lifestyle.

Over the course of eight weeks the audience will see what transformation means to each leader. No doubt our local lady will receive much support.
