No start date for promised footpath repairs

Promised footpath repairs in Mitchelstown are delayed due to ongoing staff shortages because of Covid19, according to Cork County Council.
The repairs at two locations in the town were confirmed in September last year as definitely taking place. Last October, the council confirmed that the repairs would take place outside SuperValu in November 2021, and that in early 2022 they would take place on Lower Cork Street. The delay on Lower Cork Street was meant to avoid causing disruption to Christmas shoppers.
However, both sets of works are now delayed, with no dates confirmed for their commencement.
Members of the public have requested that the gullies (the channels that allow water to run off into the drains) be made more shallow, or removed altogether, as they can be a hindrance to users of mobility scooters, causing jolting.
County engineer confirmed that this would not be possible but did assure elected officials that they would keep the depth of gullies to a minimum.
