Brilliant Ballygiblin win again!

- CBS Primary, Mitchelstown

What a fantastic day for the mighty hurlers of Ballygiblin last Sunday in a jam-packed Mallow venue. The huge crowd witnessed a great game of hurling between two local teams - Ballygiblin and Skeheenarinky - the pitches only a few miles apart. A real unique Munster junior hurling final.

We were delighted when the victorious team came to CBS on Monday. Ms O’Callaghan and Ms O’Brien had the school decorated in beautiful red and white bunting.

Skeheenarinky also have many connections to our school especially Mr Maher and Ms Kearney. We are sure they will have better days again and will look back with fond memories of their great year.

Mr O’Connell invited and welcomed the winning Ballygiblin team to CBS with ‘We Are The Champions’ playing in the background. Ms O’Regan and Ms O’Gorman had the boys prepared with a song -

“We are going to Croke Park, We are living the dream, And we will really shake it up when we win the All-Ireland Cup,

Cos Ballygiblin are the greatest Hurling team”, to the tune of ‘We are part of Jackie’s Army’ composed and written by former colleague Tom O’Donoghue.

Mr O’Regan congratulated the boys and gave us a report on the great game and that it was great to see so many boys back in Mallow on Sunday.

We are especially proud of our former students: Christopher Noonan (goalie), Brian O’Gorman (Ms O’Gorman’s brother), Mark Keane, Barry Coffey (Ms Griffin’s brother), Michael Walsh (Cathal’s brother), Man of the Match Sean O’Sullivan, James Mullins, Darragh Flynn, Jody Finn, Cian O’Brien, Cathal O’Sullivan, Seamus Barrett, Diarmuid Lynch, James Crotty, Sean Lane, Diarmuid Noonan and Owen Burke.

We wish them all the best in the All-Ireland semi-final on the 22nd, 23rd of January against Fullen Gaels of Manchester.
