Toll increases of 10c per journey

MARIAN ROCHE

Those wishing to bypass Watergrasshill and Mitchelstown will face a 10c increase on the toll charge from this month onwards, as prices rise across motorway tolling operations. The price increase means that for commuters travelling the motorway to and from work daily will typically pay an extra €48 a year on toll charges.

The M8 is one of 8 toll roads that will see the increase in 2022, the first increase since 2013.

The tolls that will now be €2.00 instead of €1.90 are the M1, N6, M7/M8, N8, N25 Waterford and Limerick Tunnel. The M4 will increase from €2.90 to €3.00, and the M3 will not see any increase.

As well as cars, most other vehicles aside from motorcycles will see an increase of 10c. Motorcycles remain the same at €1.00.

Tolls have not changed on Dublin Tunnel since 2010, and will remain at €10 at peak hours, and €3 at all other times.

The TII blame the price increases on inflation, and claim the 10c increase is based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) as of August 2021. The previous price was based on the CPI from August 2012, and since then inflation has increased 4.3%.

The maximum tolls for the toll roads are made by the PPP, aside from Dublin Tunnel and the M50, which are calculated by the TII.
