Permission granted for Watergrasshill ‘outdoor’ preschool

Good news for Watergrasshill as it is to welcome a new daycare and preschool, as planning permission has recently been granted by Cork County Council.

The planning application, which was submitted to the council in August 2021, seeks permission to develop an agricultural building to an early years daycare and preschool.

It notes that this development would include two classrooms, a boot and locker room, an outdoor play area, elevational changes and an external public play area.

Also included in the application for Condonstown South, Watergrasshill, was permission for retention relating to the change of use of two agricultural buildings. These buildings were changed to tea rooms and an indoor activity area.

Permission for retention was also sought for a petting farm, external crazy golf area and courtyard and all associated site development works as constructed.

According to planning documents, the proposed development would accommodate up to 44 children in what is described as an ‘outdoor-based pre-school facility’.

“Our experience and research show that our proposed facility would create a diverse option for Early Childhood Care and Education in the locality while also servicing the necessity for childcare and educational needs, and additionally, is strongly supported by the employment and population growth of Watergrasshill Village and the surrounding areas,” planning documents read.

Tír na Sí Farm, the site of the development, has in the past operated as a farmhouse B&B and visitor farm, hosting a variety of events and children’s camps during the holidays.

Permission for the development was recently granted by Cork County Council, subject to 14 conditions.
