Murmuration or migration on the ‘Hill?

KATIE GLAVIN

A strange sight was beheld in Watergrasshill on Sunday last as what appeared to be hundreds of crows flocked to a single house in the area.

Video footage of the unusual event, as captured by Yvonne Crosse, was shared online by ‘Mooney Goes Wild’, a wildlife and nature show.

Speculation surrounded the reason for such flocking, with one individual claiming it was a sign that a storm was on its way. The majority of those who commented on the scene, however, noted it was the birds returning home to roost for the night.

“Grew up with this every evening. It’s like they all go for a short ‘fly’ before darkness descends,” one said.

“I used to see them like that every evening in Fermoy,” another added.

One individual who commented, however, cast a more sinister tone claiming the scene reminded them of the Alfred Hitchcock 1963 film, The Birds.

Either way, the sight of so many crows flocking at this Watergrasshill bungalow in their hundreds, if not thousands, would still draw the attention of almost any passerby.
