Calls for support for scrap metal fundraiser

Ballindangan Hall is a great resource in the area and particularly for the active community of Ballindangan and surrounds. Mr Eamon Coughlan, chairperson of Ballindangan Community Council outlined that over the last 20 months with no activities in the hall, income for the hall has drastically fallen. Eamon explained that despite this fall in income, the hall continues to incur overhead costs such as insurance and general maintenance expenses. In the current times, fundraising is difficult so the idea of a Scrap Metal Fundraising collection emerged.

This fundraiser is an initiative between Ballindangan Community Council and the Parents Association of Ballindangan National School. Annette Casey, of the Parents Association stated that the insurance and general expenses of the Parents Association mean that funds are depleting with no fundraising over the last 20 months.

Both the Community Council and the Parents Association are hoping that this fundraiser will help them cover their overheads and general costs and provide them with some resources to be in a good position to plan activities and supports post Covid.

The Community Council is therefore urging all users of the hall to back this fundraising call and to donate any unwanted scrap metal or car batteries. The hall is widely used by various groups including the Community Council, the Parent and Toddler Group and the Monday Morning Group. Prior to Covid, the hall was also home to excellent productions from The Ballindangan Players. The hall is also an excellent facility for various activities and currently hosts children’s dance classes and speech and drama classes. Eamon would therefore ask all users of the hall and the wider community to see how they can support this importance fundraiser.

The Parents Association re-iterated the importance of supporting this fundraiser and are calling on parents/guardians, past pupils and their families, to see how they can support this initiative.
