Fermoy Fire Brigade attended the scene of a fire in Fermoy on Monday evening. The incident involved an ESB pole that was alight on Oliver Plunkett Hill in the town.

On Wednesday, members of the Fermoy unit attended St Colman’s College in the town as part of a programme in conjunction with Cork County Council, the Road Safety Authority, An Garda Síochana and Cork County Fire Department.

The visit to the secondary school saw members of the fire brigade carry out a Road Traffic Collision exercise at St Colman’s pitch, which involved cutting open a car to free the stricken motorist, educating students on road safety and showing them the work carried out by members of their local fire service.

Transition Year classes from the College attended the event. Students at Coláiste an Chraoibhín and Loreto Secondary School are also to attend similar programmes in the coming months.

Meanwhile, in Mitchelstown, a similar RTC exercise by the town’s brigade took place on Monday involving students from Presentation Secondary and CBS - see elsewhere for more.
