AGM on Sunday

12 months have elapsed and once again we face into our adult club’s annual general meeting. It’s been a busy, eventful, but ultimately very successful year for Araglin GAA - with regard to onfield activies, one of the most successful seasons in our history.

In keeping with the times, this AGM will have an online dimension - with a bit of luck, the country will get the upper hand on Covid and ‘normality’ will return before too long. AGM 2021 will take place in Araglin Hall on Sunday next, 16th January at 3pm. Anyone seeking an online link to the meeting should contact the club chairman, Tom Kenneally.

LOTTO RESULTS FROM 6TH JAN.

Numbers drawn: 06, 10, 23 and 30. No winner. Lucky dips distributed as follows: €50 David Neligan, Propogue, Araglin; €50 Helena Twomey-O’Brien, Tubbernahulla, Ballyduff Upper; €25 Anthony Cannon, Kilworth, c/o O’Sullivan’s Centra, Kilworth and €25 Postman Jimmy Hogan, c/o Emmet’s Shop, Araglin.

Next draw is on Thursday, 13th January at 9pm. Jackpot is €4,900. Lotto can be observed on Facebook live.

PLAY ARAGLIN GAA LOTTO ONLINE

The online lotto option continues to increase in popularity. Anyone with access to the internet can play, you simply key in araglengaa.com and this will take you to the link for the lotto.

JOHN LOOKING AFTER ROADSIDE LOTTO SIGNS

Our roadside lotto signs are updated by John Byron, who is out bright and early on Friday mornings to do his thing. Updating the signs is important and we thank John for his time and effort.

FIONA AND ALAN DRAFTED IN

Some of our lotto committee members were isolating last Thursday, so a number of ‘subs’ had to be sprung from the bench. Again, thanks to Alan Hegarty and Fiona Browne for doing the needful.

REBELS’ BOUNTY ROLLS AROUND AGAIN

Existing members of the Rebels’ Bounty draw are encouraged to renew their subscriptions for 2022. It will set you back €100, but the prizes are pretty substantial. Regrettably, we had no winner last year, however, we live in hope.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL DRAW

Araglin’s Community Council Christmas Draw was held in Christy’s last Sunday evening. First prize of €150 was won by Jim Lysaght, Cork Road, Fermoy; second prize of a hamper went to Niamh Carey, Lyreen, Araglin - one of our members, Kevin Fitzgerald, got the third prize of €50.

GROTTO CRIB STORED AWAY SAFELY

Well done to chairman, Aidan Leddy, and everyone associated with lighting the grotto for Christmas - it looked exceptionally well. Last weekend, the lights were taken down and the crib stored in the community field.

CLOTHES COLLECTION ONGOING

Individuals undertaking a new year clear out are reminded that used clothes are being collected by Araglin National School Parents’ Association. The drop off point is Araglin Community Field.

SCRAP METAL COLLECTION

Encouraged by ever increasing prices

being paid for metal, the club, as they’ve done several times in the past, are turning their attention to collecting scrap metal. The last time we were at this, we were told there was ‘nothing left’ and yet still, we managed to gather up a good few bits and pieces. Collection dates to follow.

BALLYGIBLIN V SKEHEENARINKY

Those looking for their new year ‘fix’ of hurling had the option of travelling to Mallow last Sunday to see neighbours, Ballygiblin and Skeheenarinky face off in the Munster junior hurling semi-final. It was a game that certainly captured

the public’s imagination with over 3,000 turning up.

In the end, Ballygiblin’s superior hurling and physicality won the day. Well done to both sides in what were difficult conditions for hurling. From what we hear, Ballygiblin now face UK opposition in the All-Ireland semi-final, with Dublin the most likely venue.

WHAT A RESULT

Kerry hurlers have never beaten Tipperary in a senior contest - all that changed last weekend. Despite it being an inter county managerial post, there has been very little fanfare surrounding Stephen Molumphy’s appointment of senior hurling manager to the Kerry team. Officially, a Ballyduff Upper man, Stephen’s mother is from Araglin.

DARRAGH FLYING THE FLAG FOR ARAGLIN

One of our former members making a name for himself is talented national hunt rider, Darragh Allen. He was seen to good effect in Mallow last Saturday when he guided ‘Fons Vivus’ to victory in The Irish Stallion Farms EBF mares race. The winning connections picked up a cheque for €6,500.
