Proposed development in Strawhall gets the go ahead

KATIE GLAVIN

The development of 93 dwelling houses and a crèche is to go ahead at Strawhall in Fermoy as Cork County Council recently granted planning permission for the proposal.

The applicant, Amber Vision Ltd., originally submitted the planning application in January of this year, however, a decision was subsequently put on hold following several submissions from members of the public and a further information request returned from the council.

Concerns were raised in submissions to the council regarding several issues, inclluding the site used for desludging the septic tanks of existing dwellings, increased traffic, roads not fit for purpose, unsafe footpaths, privacy, the development being ‘out of character’, foul water drainage, available capacity at Fermoy Waste Water Treatment Plant, and the potential impacts to the Blackwater Special Area of Conservation.

According to application documents, the proposed development would consist of 32 four-bed detached houses, 48 four-bed semi-detached houses, 4 three-bed semi-detached houses, 2 three-bed single-storey detached houses, 6 two-bed single-storey semi-detached houses, and 1 two-bed single-storey detached house, as well as a 278 square-metre crèche.

Recently, Cork County Council granted permission for the development, subject to 45 conditions.
