Bride Walk footbridge ‘visibly deteriorating’

KATIE GLAVIN

Concerns have once again been raised regarding the condition of the footbridge on Bride Walk in Rathcormac.

Local councillor William O’Leary tabled a motion on the matter at Tuesday’s meeting of the Fermoy Municipal District calling for an Engineer’s inspection of the footbridge.

According to the councillor, there has been a ‘noted visible deterioration’ in the structure.

“I know you have carried out inspections there before, I know I have brought this up under a notice of motion before, but there is no doubt that there has definitely been visible deterioration there over the last number of months,” Cllr O’Leary said.

Senior Engineer with Cork County Council,

Brendan O’Gorman noted that Detailed Independent Structural and Principal Inspections had been carried out in November 2016 and again in September 2019.

“No appreciable deterioration of the bridge was observed in that interval,” Mr O’Gorman said.

In Q4 of this year, Mr O’Gorman added, the council is to undertake a new Principal Inspection and will continue to seek funding to carry out the repairs identified.
