LOCAL ESTATE RESIDENTS ERECTING OWN SIGNS TO SLOW TRAFFIC

An Engineer’s report has been called for regarding the possibility of installing speed ramps and ‘children-at-play’ signs in Fermoy estates.
Tabling a motion on the matter at a recent Fermoy Municipal District meeting, local councillor Noel McCarthy said that the high speeds of traffic in Heather Way, Blackthorn Way and Forest Glen in Fermoy, have been of concern to local families.
“The residents themselves have put signs up in the area, that’ll tell you how concerned they are,” Cllr McCarthy said.
Responding to the motion, Senior Engineer with Cork County Council Brendan O’Gorman, said that there are already ‘numerous’ ramps and warning signs in place covering these estates.
“I will arrange for one additional warning sign at Hawthorn Crescent and replenish shark’s teeth road markings on the existing ramps,” Mr O’Gorman said.
He also noted that the entire area is included in a 30kph speed limit zone.
