KATIE GLAVIN

Concerns have been raised regarding traffic calming measures on the main street in Fermoy town after it has been alleged that some speed ramps in the area are ‘dangerous’.

In particular, the speed ramp on MacCurtain Street outside Bishop Murphy Memorial School has been highlighted as being a particular hazard to motorists, due to its size and steepness.

Some locals in Fermoy, who spoke with TheAvondhu, have alleged that such steep speed ramps in the town have caused damage to cars as often, the scraping and scratching of bumpers and car underbodies can be heard as vehicles travel over this particular speed ramp.

According to one local, such speed ramps can ‘do just as much damage to a car as a pothole’.
