No budget for Ballynoe traffic calming

KATIE GLAVIN

Cork County Council officials have confirmed that there is ‘no budget’ available to put traffic calming measures in place in Ballynoe.

This follows a motion tabled at a recent Fermoy Municipal District meeting by local councillor Frank O’Flynn, who called for advance signage and traffic calming measures to be put in place at the Conna road entrance to the village in the interest of safety.

“A lot of residents in Ballynoe are concerned about the speeds there. There are a lot of children in the area. Is there anything we can do to slow down traffic there?” Cllr O’Flynn asked.

PROPOSED EXTENSION

Senior Engineer with Cork County Council, Brendan O’Gorman, stated that there is currently no budget allocation for traffic calming, however, noted that speed surveys are scheduled for the area.

“There is already signage and a speed detector feedback sign at this location, as well as a 50kph speed limit.

“We are proposing an extension to the speed limit zone here (out to public consultation currently) and can extend the footpath to the estate under our future footpath programmes. Public lighting was already extended,” Mr O’Gorman noted.
