Better Life Cycle 2022 deemed a success

MARIAN ROCHE

The annual Better Life Cycle is now responsible for raising over €381,500 for St Joseph’s Foundation, funding seven wheelchair- accessible buses including the one in use by the service in Mitchelstown. Last weekend saw the eighth outing for the fundraising cycle which took place in West Cork this year.

The 70 cyclists of the Better Life Cycle Carbery West Cork Challenge 2022 took off from the Clonakilty Park Hotel last Saturday, after a ‘dilemma’ on Friday night. Organiser and committee member Nollaig Baker said that the yellow weather warning in effect for the country had them contemplating a postponement, as their coastal route meant the potential for crosswinds. However, the participants, hailing from all over the country, battled on and were rewarded with conditions that “were actually perfect”.

Those embarking on the longer 123 kilometre route headed north for Dunmanway and Bandon, before making their way back to Clonakilty by Kinsale, while those on the 65 kilometre trek made their way to Enniskeane first, returning home via Kilbrittain.

DONATIONS STILL BEING TAKEN

This is the second Better Life Cycle event to take place in the last 12 months, as the 2021 event was pushed out to last September because of you-know-what. To date, the committee of ten have done stellar work raising funds for St Joseph’s Foundation, and are still accepting donations for the foundation.

St Joseph’s provides valuable support to over 1,000 children and adults with special needs and their families in the North Cork and South Limerick area. Anyone wishing to donate can do so at eventmaster. ie/fundraising/pages/

Ms Baker, on behalf of all the crew thanked all the cyclists, volunteers and sponsors who helped to make this year’s cycle such a success.
