ALL SYSTEMS GO FOR KILDORRERY FESTIVAL

Excitement is building big time in Kildorrery as the parish is getting ready to celebrate 50 years of their famous festival. There is frantic activity day and night in the village as final preparations are being made to ensure that this year’s festival will be a fitting tribute to the occasion, which has being going strong since 1972.

'REELING IN THE YEARS'

The festival opens this Thursday with ‘Reeling In The Years’ in the Marquee. This is a nostalgic look back over the last 50 years, and will feature an amazing array of local talent portraying past festival meetings and a host of bands that have appeared over the years. Also, back for one night only, is a humorous take on the ‘Rose of the Hill’ which was one of the highlights from 1986 to 2002. This time around, the ‘Roses’ are ‘OVER’ the hill but as intent on fun as ever!

A raffle will be held during the show with several prizes on offer, the main prize being donated by the newly opened Supermac’s in Kildorrery, of a night at any Só Hotel. The evening starts at 8pm in the Marquee in The Creamery Yard and tickets can be got on the door. It might be a good idea to bring a rug for your knees to keep away any summer breezes, but of course the organisers are praying for tropical weather conditions! Children are welcome to this event - adults €20, children €10.

MIKE DENVER

Friday night sees the one and only country music legend Mike Denver and his band take to the Marquee stage for a night of dancing. The warm-up act is Donie O’Sullivan, while DJ for the night is DJ Denny. If you haven’t already got your ticket online or in local venues, they can also be got at the door. This is an over 18’s event and features a full bar, admission €20.

ABBAESQUE ON SATURDAY

Saturday night sees the super trooper band Abbaesque in the festival Marquee, so get your Abba outfit on and dance the night away to their brilliant tunes. Again, DJ Denny will be on hand. This is also an over 18’s event with a full bar, admission €20.

FAMILY DAY - SUNDAY

Eagerly awaited on this coming Sunday is the Family Day which kicks off at 12 noon. No stone is being left unturned to ensure that this will be a brilliant final day to this year’s festival. To keep little ones entertained a special line-up is planned, including Beat the Cube, Kid’s Tractor Run, Dance Fitness, Best Dressed Teddybear, BarB-Que, Kiddies’ Market Stalls and loads more.

Also on Sunday, to finish off the weekend there will be a screening of the All-Ireland Hurling semi-final between Limerick and Galway at the Marquee bar. Check the Kildorrery Festival Facebook page for full details of all events, where details are updated daily.

Kildorrery is the place to be this weekend, so head on up to The Hill for fun and games and help celebrate in style the 50 years of Kildorrery Festival.
