Popular regatta returns to Fermoy

JOHN AHERN

There's a growing sense of excitement and anticipation in advance of Sunday's Fermoy Rowing Club's regatta. For decades, a regular fixture on the sporting calendar, the regatta, like so many other events, fell victim to Covid related restrictions.

Speaking to The Avondhu this week, regatta secretary, Paul Kavanagh, said it was great to be back as he and his colleagues finalised preparations for weekend's competition.

“Traditionally, our regatta was an annual highpoint for the club and everyone is agreed that's it's great to see the return of such a prestigious event; we're pulling out all the stops to ensure the day is a success,” he said.

Paul also paid tribute to the scores of volunteers who help make the day possible.

“Hosting a regatta on this scale is a huge logistical exercise and we're grateful for the input of so many of our members, these dedicated women and men never leave us down,” he added.
