The Avondhu

Hello, we are back!

It has been a long three years since we last held our Kilflynn Church of Ireland Gala Day. I am delighted to announce that this great fun and history filled day is back with a bang. So put the 10th July, 2022 in your diary for a visit to the historic church and village of Ballyorgan and enjoy a great day.

This year we are linking our very first gala day lecture on the Oliver Family and the Palatines of Castleoliver with the “Homes of the Gascogines: The voice of their communities”.

Now you might ask what’s the connection? Well love and marriage the Olivers married into the vastly wealthy Gascogine family from Yorkshire. And today we will look at their great houses, anyone can have a home but this family had 4. Lotherton Hall And

Parlington (England), Castle Oliver (Ireland) and Craignish in (Scotland).

We have great pleasure in welcoming Ms. Stephanie Davies who is the assistant curator of community engagment at Lotherton Hall, Yorkshire, who is this year’s international speaker.

We will have a private peek to discover what life in the great houses of the was like. How the family used their wealth to benefit and support communities. Connecting people through work, music, art and sport.

Our day starts from the palatine village of Glenoisin with a guided walk by a local guide time 1pm to the Church of Ireland Kilflynn.

2.30 pm talk by Stephanie Davies “Homes of the Gascoignes; The voice of their communities”

4pm adjourn to the village of Ballyorgan for our BBQ , followed by ceol and craic in The Village Inn, Ballyorgan.
