Reply to Carol Nolan TD

Carol Nolan TD effectively accused the Government and Minister O’Brien of risking social cohesion through its Ukraine refugee policy. The Government is entirely right that we should take in whatever number of Ukraine refugees seek to come here and house them as best we can. At 35k, Ireland has taken 0.7/100 pop. Poland has taken 3.1/100 pop or 4.3 times that of Ireland.

Many people pledged shared housing to the Red Cross in February and now have up to 10 Ukrainian refugees staying with them since mid March. How many has Ms Nolan taken? I would hazard a guess and say none. Such mé féiners should examine their conscience if they have one, and instead of naval gazing should show some basic Christian charity to a war ravaged people. They should save criticism for Putin and not the Irish Government who are reflecting Irish society and basic humanity in its response to the European refugee crisis.
