Awards nights

The club was a hive of activity all last week and on Mon evening of this week, as we held our end of season awards nights for all our schoolboy and schoolgirl teams. Well done to all the award winners and to the teams who were presented with medals. A big thank you to all the kids, coaches, and parents who turned up to help make it a great event.

A big thank you to Ellen Fitzgibbon, Sean Keane, Dave O’Connor, John O’Shea, Tony Mullally and Paul Seymour who all contributed to making sure each night went smoothly.

Thanks to Matt Robinson and his team of helpers for their input into the schoolgirls’ event on Saturday week last. A big shout out to Anthony Ahern who erected a marquee on Monday night last at short notice insuring we had cover from the elements. Finally, I have to mention the Hunter’s Rest who provided food for every player and coach on the various nights, the service was impeccable. Thank you, Rob, Eileen and Tony.

SENIOR, JUNIOR, YOUTH AWARDS

Not to be outdone by our schoolboy/girls teams, our awards for our senior, junior and youth teams took place in Walsh’s Yard Bar on Saturday night last. In front of a good attendance the proceedings got under way at 8pm. Youth manager John Fox detailed a very good season for the youths with the run to the quarter-final in the Munster Youth Cup being the highlight. He then proceeded to call out his award winners for the season just finished, which were, player of the year: Jamie Fogarty. Joint top goal scorers: Ryley McDonald and Anasi.

Next up it was the turn of the Junior management team with Martin Morrissey, Pat O’Flynn and Eddie Murphy in attendance. Martin in his speech said that although the team were relegated there were some positives to be taken from the season and with a few new players on board.

This young team could in fact prove pivotal next season and the prospect of home games on Friday nights under lights on our new all weather could also benefit both adult teams. Martin then went on to call out the Junior team award winners which were Player of the year: Leon Murphy. Top goal scorer: Tommy Dalton.

Next up was the Senior team management of Keane Cahill, Shane O’Brien and Dave O’Connor, in his address, coach Shane O’Brien said whilst it wasn’t a season to write home about the team did manage to preserve their Division 1 status for the coming season but will have to be a lot stronger this season with the likes of Douglas Hall and St Mary’s now in our division after being relegated from the premier.

A good pre-season, he said will be vital to each team ahead of the season starting on 14th August. Manager Keane Cahill then proceeded with the senior team awards which were as follows, Player of the year: Laurence O’Flynn. Top goal scorer: Colin Stack. The night finished with president Paddy Moloney addressing the crowd and he mentioned how much this club has grown over the years and that the new all-weather facility will add to the club growing more and more. Help will be needed as the future is bright for Park United AFC. Congrats to all the prize winners and thank you to all who turned up and thanks to John Cleary (Walsh’s Bar) for his help on the night.
