Walkover from Newtown’

Penalties may not be the ideal way to resolve GAA games, however, neither are walkovers.

Nevertheless, Araglin gained another ‘win’ over Newtownshandrum in the division two hurling league last week without having to puck a ball - the fact that Newtownshandrum have already qualifed for the semi-final stages of this competition is most certainly a factor in their decision to concede the points on offer.

BALLYHEA NEXT UP, THEN KILWORTH

The next port of call for our junior A hurlers is a fixture against Ballyhea, again in division two hurling. At the time of writing, the plan was to play this game this weekend, either Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning.

Management and players will be kept updated. The Kilworth game is pencilled in for Wednesday, 6th July in Kilworth.

CHALLENGE GAMES

In the absence of hurling league matches, we’ve gone down the challenge game route.

Our recent meeting with Tallow’s second string was followed up by a journey to Clogheen last Sunday morning to face Fr. Sheehys, thankfully, the game was incident and accident free, with Araglin winning comfortably after an hour of hurling.

NORTH CORK FOOTBALL C’SHIP TO BE DEFERRED?

This is the speculation ahead of a forthcoming Avondhu Board delegates meeting in Mallow this week. This would provide our junior hurlers with uninterrupted preparation ahead of their opening round clash with Shanballymore. We should know more in the coming days.

WIN FOR THE AVONDHU SENIOR HURLERS

The Avondhu senior hurlers made it two wins out of two, when they accounted for fellow divisional side, Muskerry on a scoreline of 3-18 to 0-19 last Tuesday evening in Coachford. Araglin are represented by Ben Carey and Sean Hegarty.

SUCCESSFUL BINGO

GOOD REPORTS ABOUT SCHOOLS’ COACH

GAA coach, Mark Keane from Mitchelstown, was in Araglin National School last Thursday for his final training session before the summer holidays. Mark has a number of schools on his books and by all accounts, gets on great with pupils. Having spent some time playing Australian football, Mark is now back on home turf, where he plays football with Mitchelstown and hurling with Ballygiblin, he is currently the captain of the Avondhu senior hurlers. Club members were in Araglin N.S. last Thursday to distribute some goodies.
