Hurling / long puck extravaganza
Great day at Cork Community Games finals in Ballincollig on Sunday. Mitchelstown U11 hurlers had a good battle against winners Ballincollig in the semi-final.
Team: Noah Graham, Eoin Hanley, Evan Holland, MJ Keane, Scott Kirby, Fionn Lynch, Rory McCarthy, Sean McCarthy, Cathal Moher, Luke Sheehy, Conor Spratt, Max Thornton, Liam Walsh, Sean Warren, Thomas Whelan.
Feature of the game were Rory McCarthy’s deftness of multiple overhead flicks on route to rattling the net and Aaron Horgan’s acrobatics as custodian in deflecting certain goals. What a high powered game!
LONG PUCK DRAMA
The Long Puck drama unfolded using smart touch ball 4. U12 competitors PJ Hogan finished a creditable 6th with 66 metres and Rory McCarthy 5th with 72 metres.
Ladies Caoimhe McDonald with over 71 metres and Niamh Murphy with over 62 metres finished 1st and 2nd. Caoimhe and Niamh will represent Cork at All Ireland U14 Long Puck final in Carlow on August 13.
10 area qualifiers will compete for Cork at Munster track finals on July 23 in Ennis

6 Field qualifiers compete for Cork in Nationals on August 13 in Carlow. Javelin Lucy Dennehy; Long Jump Michael Quirke, Dave Towey, Molly Thornton, Cara Burke; Shot Putt Fintan O’Grady;
High Jump Orla McCallum.
Brave area athletes participated in a lovely Banteer sports last Saturday. It was a very well organised event with chip timing.
Full training at O’Connell Park, Mitchelstown Tuesday 7pm and Kilworth Parish Field Friday 7pm. Row in behind these athletes.
Area swim Matilda Higginbotham and Daniel Fitzgerald are preparing for National Swimming finals.
