The Avondhu

Festival of football

On Saturday we had a marathon of games all day with our Juvenile teams. The weather certainly didn’t dampen the mood or the excitement and we would like to thank all who helped and organised the games.

In total, we had close to 700 boys and girls and all getting a ‘treat’ on the way home for their efforts on the playing field and we’d like to also thank the clubs from near and far who attended.

Thanks to Ryan’s SuperValu, Glanmire for supplying goodie bags and Tim Madden ice creams.

COUNTY INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL LEAGUE QUARTER-FINAL Glenville 2-7 Glanmire 2-14

Glenville travelled to Riverstown on Friday night last for the quarter-final of the county intermediate football league.

It was the home team who started the best, however, Glenville came more and more into the game as the half went on and were 2 points down at half-time with Glanmire leading 1-7 to 1-5. Our points coming from Dan and Josh with Dan scoring an excellent goal.

Glenville battled gamely in the second half with Josh, PJ and Dan kicking some nice points and Brendan got through for a well taken goal, but it was Glanmire who kicked on as the half wore on and were deserved winners on the night.

DADS AND LADS

Dads and Lads is a social football and hurling programme for those keen to enjoy Gaelic games outside the traditional competitive structures of the GAA.

The philosophy of GAA for Dads & Lads is all about participation and the camaraderie that only team sports can offer. The small-sided adapted games allow for incidental contact only (to minimise any risk of injury) so skills are to the fore over physicality. The games are self-governed – no referees.

We recently started a Dads and Lads football and hurling group in Glenville and it has proved a great success so far, with numbers increasing every night. It’s open to all and no previous experience of playing football is required.

To sign up, or for more details contact John O’Connor our PRO on 085-7102290.
