Shanbally’ lose out to strong Garnish side

Garnish 3-14 Shanballymore 0-7

Garnish were worthy winners over Shanballymore in the Bon Seccours Co JBFC (1) quarter-final at rain swept Ballyvourney on Sunday.

From the start, the winners gained control in vital sectors with Paul O’Neill, Sean Terry O’Sullivan and Brian Terry O’Sullivan commanding figures. Sean Terry O’Sullivan pointed two early frees with Cian O’Neill pointing in the 8th minute. Further pressure saw Sean Terry O’Sullivan point from a free and two from play, as the Beara side opened up a lead of 0-7 to 0-0.

The winners had their first goal when O’Sullivan cut in from the wing and passed to Jerome Dwyer who netted from close range. By half-time Garnish led 1-8 to 0-0.

Jake Buckley pointed for Shanballymore early in the second half. Garnish lost Sean Terry O’Sullivan through injury and in the 36th minute, the winners had their 2nd goal by Tuan Melane, leaving it 2-8 to 0-1.

Shanballymore battled very hard against the odds. Eoin O’Regan pointed a free. Cian O’Neill replied with two great points for Garnish - 2-10 to 0-2. Both sides made a number of substitutions. Paul O’Neill had two long range pointed frees for the victors. Points in succession for Shanballymore by Darragh Palmer, Sean Lynch and Brian O’Reilly made it 2-13 to 0-6.

In the 57th minute Brian Terry O’Sullivan was involved in a four man attack that led to O’Sullivan scoring a brilliant goal. Eoin O’Regan with a free completed the scoring.

Garnish now meet Diarmuid O’Mathuna’s in the county semi-final, with St Oliver Plunkett’s facing Fr O’Neill’s in the second semi-final.
