Our captain for 2022, William Curley

This year in Lismore Golf Club we have one of the youngest club captains in the country, William Curley is only 37 years old and making an excellent contribution to the continued progress the club has made in recent years.

We asked William a few questions recently and received the following answers.

Q. Why and when did you take up golf?

I only started playing 4 or 5 years ago when I finished playing other sports such as hurling and soccer.

Q. What was your best achievement since taking up golf?

Winning the captain’s prize a few years ago. It was a huge surprise to me and everyone else I think.

Q. Who is your favourite golfer on tour?

Ian Poulter, I love his passion for the game.

Q. What is your golf handicap and are you satisfied with it?

My present handicap is 11. My aim is to get to single figures this year and hopefully lower in future years.

Q. What is your favourite golf course of the courses you have played?

The Heritage in County Laois was by far the best.

Q. If you could play a four ball at the Heritage what personalities would you like to join you?

Ian Poulter, Roy Keane and AP McCoy.

Q. Any rule in golf that you would like to change?

If your ball is in a divot it’s very unfair and I think you should be allowed to lift and drop away.

Q. How is it being captain this year?

It was a great honour to be elected captain and to be honest I’m really enjoying it and would like to thank all the members for the faith they have in me. I will work hard to ensure that this club will have an excellent year in 2022.
