Glencullen and Rathowen estates to be 'taken-in-charge' this year

KATIE GLAVIN

Two local housing estates are to feature in the next North Cork tranche of estates to be 'taken in charge' by Cork County Council.

News of this follows as Cllr Noel McCarthy tabled a motion at the recent meeting of the Fermoy Municipal District seeking an update for both the Rathowen and Glencullen/

Ardkeen estates in Fermoy.

Cllr McCarthy asked whether the taking-in-charge of such estates could be fast-tracked and stated that residents have given significant attention to their areas over the years.

He also noted the difficulties experienced by those in the estates, as they were unable to apply for grants for improvements due to the estates not being taken-in-charge.

Q3 2023

Claire Looney O’Sullivan, SEO of Cork County Council’s Planning and Development Department, stated that there are valid Developer’s Taking in Charge applications for both Rathowen Estate and Glencullen Estate.

“The bonds on both estates have been claimed and settled; and initial snag lists have been prepared for both developments. It is intended to concentrate the next North Cork bundle on the Fermoy area (which will include Rathowen Estate and Glencullen Estate), with scoping of works and preparation of documentation scheduled to commence in Q3 2023,” the response read.

News of the taking-in-charge of the two Fermoy estates was widely welcomed by councillors as it was noted that residents have ‘waited a long time’ for it.
