Shut those doors: close call in Galbally!

MARIAN ROCHE

Mitchelstown Fire Service had a relatively busy week, in which the benefits of closing the doors in a house was clearly evidenced during one callout.

On Sunday at 3am, the unit was called to a house fire in Galbally. However, all the doors in the house were closed, which meant that while the kitchen was left with a lot of damage, the fire had burnt itself out by the time the brigade got to the scene and the harm was therefore isolated.

Last Thursday at 1am the brigade were called to another fire at Beechwood Grove in Mitchelstown, where three sheds were on fire. A neighbour sounded the alarm and the fire was prevented from spreading to the house.

Later on the same day, at approximately 5pm, the unit assisted the Fermoy brigade at the scene of a road traffic accident, where an 11-month old baby was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Then on Tuesday of this week, the fire brigade attended the scene of another collision on the northbound M8, just past the toll, between a van and a car. No injuries were reported.
