Public thanked as over €11k raised in Fermoy on Daffodil Day

Daffodil Day dawned last Friday, March 24th and contrary to the bleak weather forecast, the skies were blue. The volunteers were to be seen all around the town collecting money on behalf of The Irish Cancer Society. Despite fre

quent heavy showers, the rain didn’t dampen their spirits. The bright yellow hues long associated with Daffodil Day most certainly helped!

The business owners of Fermoy once again welcomed the volunteers who willing gave of their time to help raise funds for such a worthy cause. The students of St. Colman’s College and Coláiste an Chraoibhín were more than happy to play their part too. Huge thanks must go to all of the local volunteers – young (and not so young) who were prepared to stand at their allocated collection spots, many of whom had to battle the wind and rain during the day.

Thanks to all those who gave us beautiful daffodils from their gardens to sell on the day. We cannot forget Charlie in the PC Clinic, Ted O’Leary and Joan and Paddy Crowley who worked tirelessly all afternoon and late into the evening counting and lodging all monies raised. Also, a special words of thanks to Gus, Fionnuala and Kay in Fermoy Education Centre who were on hand providing tea/coffee and support throughout the day.

A huge thank you to Aoideen, Tracy, Joan and Noreen in Cope Foundation, Fermoy whose help was invaluable both on Friday and in helping to count the money. Lastly, but most importantly, to all those who contributed so willingly on the streets of Fermoy. Without your amazing generosity, Daffodil Day would not have been the huge success it was.

At the time of going to print, €11,176.24 had been raised for The Irish Cancer Society. Well done to all involved. Anyone who would like to be involved in Daffodil Day 2024, please contact Maeve (086) 3556389 and you’ll be added to the amazing group of volunteers.
