Kildorrery Tidy Towns welcomes expanding numbers

Kildorrery Tidy Towns have reported a good turnout at their most recent AGM, held on Tuesday night last week. Chair Ted Enright welcomed all to the meeting, and was delighted to welcome four new members to the active group, bringing their total now to 16 members.

The activities of the year were discussed, and particular emphasis was placed on the positive result the village received in 2022’s Tidy Towns Competition. Special reference was made to the application itself, which was prepared by Corinne and was complimented on by the adjudicators.

Mr Enright especially thanked Corinne for her efforts, as well as the CE group for the great work being done now on a daily basis throughout the village.

Referring to their high marks, Ted said how “proud we are that we increased our marks by 13 to a total of 347 overall”, and continued to thank also the people who helped out financially throughout the year, as well as the community and business people for keeping the village in pristine condition. The committee also welcomed the boy scouts for coming on board and partaking in last year’s Spring Clean.

For 2023, the following officers were elected: Chair, Ted Enright; vice-chair, Alan Meader; secretary, Conor Maguire; and treasurer, Marie Collins.

WORK ONGOING

The group are currently hard at work on a new project on the Mitchelstown Road, to tidy up the area by the effluent plant. The topsoil is already down, and shortly the group will be preparing the ground for grass seed and shrubs. They are also in the process of replacing all the lamps in the community houses with low-wattage LEDs, as well as the fluorescent lights.

Inflation is hitting Tidy Towns groups too, as the price of everything, including plants, has shot up. Mr Enright continued to extend his thanks on behalf of the group to the community, and finished by saying that, were it not for the CE group, that “Kildorrery Tidy Towns wouldn’t exist at all”.

Tidy Towns entries for 2023, the 65th iteration of the competition, have to be submitted by 10th May. An Taisce's National Spring Clean, Ireland's nationwide anti-litter campaign, takes place during the whole month of April.
