Friends of Dean and Pádraig set to return to the pitch

KATIE GLAVIN

Friends of Dean and Pádraig will resume their GAA activities on Wednesday, April 12.

The Castlelyons-based group began in 2021 as an all-inclusive GAA group for children with special and additional needs and is welcoming all children with additional needs to get involved as they prepare to get back on the pitch.

The group are making a welcome return and hope to see familiar faces, along with some new ones' too, with the first session back kicking off from 5.30pm-6.30pm on at the GAA grounds in the village.

Since the group’s formation, Friends of Dean and Pádraig has held very successful Cúl Eile camps locally and has continued to grow with families travelling from Fermoy, Midleton, Youghal, Mallow and further afield to get involved with the group weekly.

VOLUNTEERS & COACHES SOUGHT

Although still a relatively new group, the 2022 Cúl Eile camp welcomed around 61 children, with demand for the club and associated camps ever-growing.

“We are seeking both coaches and volunteers for the upcoming season. As the need for this group continues to grow, we need as much support as possible from the community,” a spokesperson for the group said.

Friends of Dean and Pádraig have advised that for those wishing to help out with the group who require GAA Garda vetting and safeguarding, the group can help with the process.
