Carrignavar student honoured with Engineering Design Award

Carrignavar’s Simon Walsh has been named the PM Group Design Award winner 2021-22.

The local student, who is now undertaking a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London, received the prestigious award at the recent Process and Chemical Engineering awards, which takes place annually amongst the School of Engineering at UCC.

Simon is also a past pupil of Coláiste an Chroi Naofa and graduated from UCC with First Class Honours in Process and Chemical Engineering some months ago.

Each year, the awards recognise student achievements across a diverse range of academic and extracurricular activities.

Student excellence is showcased at the awards excellence across the areas of advanced process design, operation and innovation with the philosophy of sustainability production at its core.

The awards highlighted how the School of Engineering UCC and in particular Process and Chemical Engineering working together with some of the most significant process industries globally, are educating graduates who are actively contributing to a more sustainable world.

Emerging engineering talent is also showcased at the awards which demonstrates the key role of the School of Engineering at UCC in supplying the industry with the highest quality graduates. Process and Chemical Engineering at UCC can trace its origins back to 1927.

The current degree programme offers a fiveyear integrated Masters in Process & Chemical Engineering which is accredited by both Engineers Ireland and the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE).
