€15K for lighting on MacCurtain Street

KATIE GLAVIN

Some €15,000 in funding has been allocated towards public lighting improvements on Fermoy’s MacCurtain Street.

Currently, one side of the street, stretching from D. Fitzgibbon’s past Bishop Murphy Memorial School, has no lighting, while the opposite side is lit.

Having been raised in previous Fermoy Municipal District meetings by councillors, Senior Engineer Brendan O’Gorman recently announced that funding has been allocated towards the improvement to the existing lighting. ‘Mid-level lights that bound across the road’ will be installed in the area, to help with the issue.

Cllr Noel McCarthy welcomed the news, however, queried as to whether it would be enough, stating that continuing to have lights on only one side of the town’s main thoroughfare would be a ‘disadvantage’.
