Warm welcome for ‘The Field’ in Rathcormac
JOHN AHERN
Relations between Rathcormac and Castlelyons have never been better.
These ‘unbreakable bonds of friendship’ were further reinforced last weekend when members of Castlelyons Community Drama Group, jumped at the opportunity to perform in Rathcormac Community Centre - all in aid of the recently established Rathcormac Men’s Shed.
FULL HOUSE
After praise, good lines and regular cups of tea, there’s nothing actors love more than a full house. While Men’s Shed chairman, Dan Dooley, didn’t give a written guarantee he would have a full house in Rathcormac Community Centre last Saturday night, he did, it’s reported ‘give a wink and a nod’ and in Rathcormac, that’s nearly better than any guarantee. Backed up by Men’s Shed colleagues, his extensive political connections, a vast sporting network and a few fellas that owed him a favour or two, Dan and ‘The Shed’ came good for Denis (Buckley) and ‘The Field’.
A WORD FROM THE DIRECTOR
Castlelyons’ version of the John B. Keane classic was ably directed by theatrical nice guy, Denis Buckley. Speaking to the audience following the show, Denis said it was ‘ great to be in Rathcormac’.
“We’re delighted to be in Rathcormac, we’ve been very busy with ‘The Field’ and have enjoyed every minute of it. Hopefully, you’ve all enjoyed the show tonight, it’s always great to be in Rathcormac,” he said.
From what we can gather, Denis and his troupe seem to be ready at short notice to perform. An example of this was a late call up to the prestigious West Waterford Drama Festival a couple of weeks ago, where they were warmly received.
MIDDLE MAN
Another individual heavily involved in getting ‘The Field’ to Rathcormac was accomplished performer, Donal O’Leary - The Field’s unfortunate ‘outsider’.
UPWARDS AND ONWARDS FOR RATHCORMAC MEN’S SHED
Rathcormac Men’s Shed has certainly hit the ground running and there are great reports about the work they are doing around Rathcormac and Bartlemy. An organisation that’s reputed to be ‘ bursting with talent’, there are rumours that they are planning a play of their own in the not too distant future!
